Michael Sorrell, President, Paul Quinn College.
What good is research if your students can’t eat or breathe? Everyone is searching for the magical unicorn to “fix” higher education. The truth of the matter is that society needs higher education to solve a problem for which higher education was never designed to address – a world where the majority of K-12 students are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Educating students today demands a very different model and priorities than educating college students required a generation ago. Today’s students need an education rooted in reality. In this session, Michael Sorrell will present a vision for higher education that is rooted not in research or elitism, but in the reality of the lives that our students live.
