Rene Sanchez, superintendent of Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union, brings a data-driven approach and systems-thinking processes to academic, belonging, and operations areas. During his five years as a Vermont superintendent across two districts, he has successfully led the implementation of a five-year strategic plan, facilities bonds, curriculum, assessment, and data platforms, and expanded community interaction.In South Bend, he focused on inclusiveness and Universal Design for Learning in teacher training, digitalized Hunan Resources processes, and facilitated WIFI implementation on school buses during the pandemic. This action led to the district bridging the digital divide during the COVID-19 pandemic and its recognition in local, state, and national news.As the principal of Houston ISD’s Chavez High School, he led his team in establishing two IB Programmes and a dual-diploma Associate’s Degree program. America Achieves and the OECD recognized the school for closing the academic gap compared to affluent schools. Scholarships increased from $6 million to over $19 million. In just 3 years, his vertical team increased the school’s arts programs by 250%.Rene, originally from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, earned degrees from Notre Dame, UT-Austin, and Ohio State and is working on his Ph.D. at Indiana State. He is married to Jean, and they have three children and three dogs. He enjoys activities like cycling, cooking, reading, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
