Pro Po! Going for the Gold in Math, Laughing All the Way

September 24, 2025

Carnegie Mellon mathematician and social entrepreneur Po-Shen Loh is on a mission to help humanity thrive in the age of AI.

From reimagining the teaching of quadratic equations to reinventing math thinking using improv comedy skills (as he recently discussed with Lex Fridman), Professor Loh exemplifies the innovative and unexpected fusion that powers personalized learning at scale. After developing his beloved Daily Challenge curriculum, his newest project, LIVE, unites young math stars with actors and comedians to teach virtual lessons that feel more like a Twitch stream than a math class; with performers coaching the young facilitators on energy, improv, and delivery to their peers, Professor Loh is innovating how math is learned and taught—and fueling a generation of passionate, effective math mentors.

A math professor at Carnegie Mellon since 2010, he coached the university’s math team to its first-ever #1 rank among North American universities—as well as the USA Math Olympiad team to its first back-to-back, gold-medal victories in 2015 and 2016, then again in 2018 and 2019. He personally speaks in an unprecedented 100+ cities per year on education-after-AI, learning while sharing ideas with students, parents, researchers, and policymakers—all while running his own EdTech social enterprise, Expii.

As education further intersects with AI, the opportunity has never been greater to meet students where they are, supercharge creative problem-solving, and instill a lifelong love of learning. We are thrilled to have the prolific Po-Shen Loh lead such an important conversation on StageX at the 2026 ASU+GSV Summit—April 12-15 in San Diego!
