Bryan Alexander is a renowned futurist, researcher, writer, speaker, consultant, and educator in higher education. He earned his PhD in English language and literature from the University of Michigan, with a dissertation on doppelgangers in Romantic-era literature. After teaching at Centenary College of Louisiana, where he pioneered multi-campus interdisciplinary classes and organized an information literacy initiative, he joined the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE), a non-profit working to help small colleges and universities best integrate digital technologies. There he held several roles, including co-director of a regional education and technology center, director of emerging technologies, and senior fellow. In 2013 he founded Bryan Alexander Consulting, LLC, offering higher education consultancy services globally. Bryan is a prolific speaker and author, featured in major media outlets. He has been interviewed by and featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, MSNBC, the Wall Street Journal, US News and World Report, National Public Radio, amongst others. Bryan’s book Academia Next: The Futures of Higher Education won an Association of Professional Futurists award. His latest book, Universities on Fire: Higher Education in the Age of Climate Crisis, appeared from Johns Hopkins in 2023. Bryan is currently a senior scholar at Georgetown University, he teaches graduate seminars in the Learning, Design, and Technology program.
