Edward Metz is a developmental psychologist, education researcher, and a program manager of the U.S. Department of Education and Institute of Education Sciences’ Small Business Innovation Research program, a $14M annual ‘seed fund’ for the R&D, evaluation, commercialization of new education technology products. Millions of students and educators use products developed though ED/IES SBIR each year. Many products have been acquired and raised investments to enable scale up. Since 2013, Ed has produced the ED Games Expo, an annual showcase of game-changing education technology innovations developed across more than 50 programs in the U.S. government. Prior to IES, Ed performed research examining the impact of school-based service learning on student’s civic engagement. Ed is a former American Association for the Advancement of Science and Society for Research in Child Development (AAAS/SRCD) Executive Branch Fellow.
