
Giselle Alvarez (Purépecha/Michoacán; Tongva/Miwok/California) is an Indigenous researcher working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, environmental justice, and ethical technology. Her work focuses on how technological advancement affects Indigenous and marginalized communities, with an emphasis on community-centered and culturally grounded innovation. Her research in AI safety centers on Indigenous languages, data sovereignty, and protecting cultural knowledge from misuse and extraction. Grounded in Seven Generations thinking, she advocates for technology that supports long-term community and environmental well-being. Alvarez is also engaged in environmental advocacy, connecting youth to land, culture, and nature while exploring how technology can be used for climate resilience and community empowerment. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied Computer Science and Native American Studies.
