Kyle Thompson

My name is Kyle Thompson, and I am an educator who is interested in promoting learning in higher education. At Harvey Mudd College, I have the privilege of overseeing our writing center and a STEM tutoring program called Academic Excellence, each of which is staffed by amazing human tutors who teach critical thinking skills through Socratic-style interactions with fellow students. Because AI is often presented as a "learning" tool, I became involved with the larger conversation about what AI means for higher education. I believe that it's essential for academic institutions to have ongoing discussions about what AI means for student learning, and one of the best ways to get people thinking about difficult issues is to bring in thought leaders to share their ideas with students, faculty, staff, and community members. I'm excited to talk about my experiences helping to organize two speaker series on AI at Harvey Mudd College.
