Matt Johnson

I teach Artificial Intelligence in High School at Whitney High in Cerritos, CA. The course is a CTE capstone of a CS pathway which I co-lead with fellow AI Innovator Eamon Marchant, which we pitched in 2016, and I began teaching in 2018. Prior to becoming a teacher, I studied AI in grad school and worked in AI start-ups at a time before the "Deep Learning Revolution". Feeling the time wasn't ripe for AI, I left industry to go back to my roots teaching Physics without intending to work further in Computer Science, but when AI begin making breakthroughs with deep neural networks, I got back on the horse. In addition to my teaching, I advise multiple clubs as well as our school district hack-a-thon ABC Code Jam, I'm a multiple time TEDx speaker, advisor, and coach for our school's event, an Intuit 100 champion, a part of LACOE's AI Task Force, an active member of the AI4CA community, and I have spoken in numerous other events including ISTE & AAAI.
