Tyler Sussman is a Senior Program Officer on the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) Education Initiative, where he has served for over 7 years. Beginning his career as a high school history teacher and then instructional coach in the SF Bay Area, Tyler advanced into edtech leadership, co-founding the Summit Learning program and driving strategic partnerships with state education agencies, districts, and other edtech initiatives. At CZI, Tyler’s role bridges grantmaking and strategic partnerships. On the grantmaking front, he leads portfolios to advance research yielding open source datasets/models to improve AI performance, enhance the privacy, security, and interoperability of the K–12 edtech ecosystem, and enable co-design infrastructure that actively engages educators in developing impactful edtech solutions. Parallel to his grantmaking work, Tyler leads business development efforts to bolster CZI Education’s public good technology development. He focuses on building AI infrastructure for edtech developers and enabling a more interoperable edtech ecosystem by forging strategic partnerships between data providers and developer users of CZI’s education infrastructure and middleware tools.
