Dr. Cory Steiner began as Superintendent of Fargo Public Schools in July 2025.Dr. Steiner started his career in education as a social studies teacher and athletic director at Rhame High School in Rhame, N.D. From 2000-04, he was a social studies teacher at Beulah Middle and High School in Beulah, N.D. He began in administration as a principal and activities director at Des Lacs-Burlington High School in Des Lacs, N.D., where he served from 2004-06. He served as an assistant principal at West Fargo High School from 2006-2011 and as the principal of West Fargo High School from 2011-12. He was a Statewide Longitudinal Data System data steward for the State of North Dakota from 2012-14. From 2014-2024, Dr. Steiner was superintendent of Northern Cass Public Schools.Dr. Steiner serves as chair of the Education Standards and Practices Board and The Village Family Service Center. He is serving his second term as a commissioner for the Education Commission of the States, a position appointed by the governor of North Dakota. He is also a representative to the Learner Centered Collaborative Advisory Council, a board member for the Education Leader’s Organization, and serves as a focus group member of the ND Council of Educational Leaders. He has served as a representative on the Governor’s Task Force on Innovation and an adjunct professor for North Dakota State University, the University of Jamestown and University of North Dakota.Dr. Steiner holds a Bachelor of Science in Composite Social and Behavioral Science in Teaching from Dickinson State University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Dakota, and a Doctorate of Education from the University of North Dakota.
