Dr. Deepa Muralidhar

Dr. Deepa Muralidhar is a tenure-track faculty member in Computer Science at Perimeter College, Georgia State University, where she teaches undergraduate courses including CS1, CS2, data structures, data science, and ethics in computing courses. She brings over 17 years of K–12 classroom experience and a decade of prior software industry work in development and quality assurance, allowing her to connect academic concepts with real-world practice. Her research in human-centered artificial intelligence focuses on transparency, algorithmic fairness, and mitigating bias in AI systems, with her doctoral work examining progressive disclosure as a way to operationalize transparency in system design and pedagogy. She has shared this work at venues such as AAAI, VL/HCC, INTERACT, AIES, IEEE SCOPE 2025, and other AI and HCI forums. She has received multiple institutional and foundation awards recognizing her research, teaching excellence, and dissertation work. A long-standing advocate for broadening participation in computing, she has contributed to CSforAll efforts, including events at the White House, and to NSF-funded CS4All initiatives advancing equitable CS access. Dr. Deepa Muralidhar is currently working on building an AI Leadership Academy at Perimeter College, GSU. In this effort she works as an AI Strategist, training faculty in implementing AI content within their discipline, building certification courses towards providing students AI competency credentials.
