Amine Bensaid serves as president ofAl Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), a distinguished liberal arts andsciences university in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa (MEA)region.  A computer scientist by training and a passionate advocatefor liberal arts and sciences education, he is widely recognized for hisleadership to advance a more accessible, scalable and sustainable model ofliberal arts and sciences education.  His recent focus has centeredon augmenting the model through the innovative integration of work-basedlearning, technology, and approaches that demonstrate a measurable impact onstudent flourishing and success.

Amine has served on the boards of theCouncil for Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Global Liberal Arts Alliance(GLAA).  He’s currently a member of the board of the FulbrightCommission in Morocco, of the Executive Committee of the InternationalAssociation of University Presidents (IAUP), and of Morocco’s Higher Councilfor Education, Scientific Research and Training.

Before assuming the presidency of AUIin 2019, Amine served for 8 years as President of Mundiapolis University inCasablanca.  Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years as a member ofAUI’s computer science faculty, and was appointed Dean of Engineering and laterVice President for Academic Affairs and Research.

Amine earned a Bachelor’s degree inInformation Systems, a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, and a Ph.D. inComputer Science and Engineering from the University of SouthFlorida.  He also held research assignments at the Technical Universityof Delft and Carnegie Mellon University.  His scholarly work as acomputer scientist has focused on the artificial intelligence fields of neuralnetworks and fuzzy pattern recognition.  He served for eleven yearsas Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics.

Amine is a Fulbright Scholar, and amember of the Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi honor societies.
