“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”
― Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
With this famous quote from Charles Dickens, we capture where the world of education and workforce skills innovation is today.
In one “city,” we celebrate a sector that is finally receiving adequate capital in 2021 with over $20B in venture and growth capital coming into the space — up three-fold from 2019. We can assume that this new capital will drive more scaled innovation so that ALL people can have equal access to the future.
In the other “city,” we know that the climb to achieving equality has gotten steeper. The pandemic has widened achievement and skills gaps, especially amongst the world’s most vulnerable populations. Other crises such as youth mental health, rising refugee “states,” and climate change are causing additional frictions.
At the ASU+GSV Summit, our purpose is to convene the best and brightest minds in global learning and workforce skills to catalyze action and transformation. Through Pre-K to Gray innovation, we can bridge the gap between these two "cities" and shape a brighter, more equitable world for today's students. We CAN change the world for GOOD!
