Beloved for his passion and competitive spirit as much as his record-breaking talents, John McEnroe will join the 2025 ASU+GSV Summit’s grand finale for both a keynote and live band performance, Wednesday at The Shell!
"Johnny Mac" is one of the greatest tennis players of our time and one of the most memorable icons in sports history. Ranked No. 1 on the all-time ATP Tour tournament win list with 155 combined singles and doubles titles, John dominated tennis in the late seventies and eighties, winning three Wimbledon titles and four U.S. Open titles, among many others. He’s won 77 career singles titles, including seven Grand Slams, and was ranked No. 1 in the world for four years straight, from 1981 through 1984. John also helped lead the United States to five Davis Cup championships. In addition to his singles crowns, John has won 78 doubles titles. In July 1999, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as a true tennis icon. Today, he’s a regular commentator for numerous broadcasts: the Australian Open with ESPN and Channel Nine Australia, the French Open with Warner Brothers Discovery (Turner Sports & Eurosport), Wimbledon with ESPN and BBC, and the US Open with ESPN.
As a proud New Yorker, John wanted to make tennis a game-changer for every New York kid, regardless of means. Intent on removing the economic, racial, and social barriers to success through tennis, he partnered with SPORTIME to open the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in 2010 and his nonprofit Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP) soon after. Together, they’ve created a Tennis Pathway to Success® that allows New York children to explore their athletic potential and beyond — empowering them to not just adopt an active lifestyle, but also develop the problem-solving skills and self-discipline necessary for on- and off-court success. JMTP has reached 16,500+ students through community programs, helping many earn collegiate scholarships.
