From Classroom to Career: Designing Agency for the AI Workforce

As the pace of technological change accelerates, the gap between classroom learning and workforce readiness continues to widen. Traditional career pathways often position students as passive participants, limiting their ability to develop the skills that matter most in an AI-driven economy—adaptability, problem-solving, collaboration, and ownership of learning.

This session explores how agency-based learning can bridge that gap by placing students in the role of active creators, decision-makers, and problem solvers. Through the lens of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and real-world learning experiences, speakers will examine how schools can redesign learning environments to better align with the demands of the modern workforce.

Drawing on district-level implementation and AI-enabled curriculum design, the discussion will highlight how educators can create authentic, career-connected experiences where students engage with real challenges, explore pathways aligned to their interests, and develop durable, future-ready skills.

Participants will reflect on their current career pathway models and identify opportunities to shift from compliance-driven tasks to meaningful, student-owned work. The session will also explore how AI can support this transition—helping educators design more personalized, relevant, and dynamic learning experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world application.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies to rethink career pathways, strengthen student agency, and better prepare learners for success in an evolving, AI-powered workforce.
