Adela de la Torre

President

San Diego State University

Adela de la Torre became the ninth president of San Diego State University in 2018. Her strategic plan has dramatically increased achievement and success for all students, expanded the campus footprint to five campus locations across San Diego and Imperial Counties, and advanced career-readiness and social mobility for its more than 500,000 alumni. In 2025, SDSU met and exceeded its goal of earning “R1” classification as one of the top 5% of American universities for research activity. During de la Torre’s tenure, SDSU has consistently ranked among the top institutions in the nation for applications and has grown enrollment to nearly 40,000, while setting new records in philanthropic giving, athletic achievement and national rankings.
