Alejandro Caballero

With more than 25 years of relevant work experience, Alejandro Caballero is a Principal Education Specialist at the World Bank Group based in Washington D.C. Alejandro’s investment, operational and analytical experience in education spans across Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on Skills for Jobs seg, including Tertiary Education, Ed Tech, HR Tech and Employability. Alejandro has been instrumental in the development of IFC’s value-added services in Tertiary Education: Vitae (Employability), D4TEP (Digital Transformation), ILE (Industry Led Education) and Internationalization. Alejandro has also played a critical role in the development of IFC’s Ed Tech practice, having led and/or been involved in the most relevant investments carried out by IFC to date, including Coursera, with had a successful exit at the IPO. Earlier in his career at the World Bank Group, Alejandro was a Task Team Leader in Education at the World Bank in Latin America and the Caribbean, involved in cross-cutting collaborations with the teams in Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation and Private Sector Development. Prior to joining the World Bank Group in 2006, Alejandro worked in the private sector as a Vice President with Deutsche Bank in the Asia Pacific region. He also held previous positions with management consulting firms Oliver Wyman and Booz Allen and Hamilton and in investment banking with the M&A Advisory team of Goldman Sachs, based in London, working across industries (Telecom, Healthcare, Energy, Consumer Goods, …). He was an advisor to the CEO and Asia Director of Action Aid, based in London and Kathmandu. Alejandro holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a master’s degree in education from Stanford Graduate School of Education, where he was a La Caixa fellow (Fulbright equivalent).
