Dr. Darin Brawley earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California and is currently in his fourteenth year as Superintendent of the Compton Unified School District (CUSD). Under his leadership, CUSD has experienced one of the most significant and sustained academic turnaround in California.
When Dr. Brawley began his tenure, Compton Unified faced severe academic and systemic challenges, including a graduation rate of 58% and A–G completion rates of 12%. Today, graduation rates have increased to 94%, A–G completion rates have risen to 76%, and the district’s College and Career Indicator stands at 72%. College acceptance rates now exceed 95%, with FAFSA completion rates surpassing both state and national averages.
These gains are unparalleled among similarly situated districts in Los Angeles County and throughout California.
