Dylan Arena

Dylan is Chief Data Science & AI Officer at McGraw Hill, where he is responsible for developing and implementing the company's global vision and strategy for data science and AI. Dylan is a learning scientist with a background in cognitive science, philosophy, and statistics. He has done extensive research and development in game-based learning, next-generation assessment, and educational data science. Dylan started his career as a software developer at Oracle. He joined McGraw Hill in 2021 with the acquisition of Kidaptive, the personalized-learning edtech company he co-founded in 2011. Dylan earned a bachelor's degree in Symbolic Systems, a master's in Philosophy, a master's in Statistics, and a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Technology Design (in the program for Developmental and Psychological Sciences), all from Stanford University. Dylan is or has been a youth mentor, tutor, substitute teacher, rugby/soccer/baseball/weightlifting coach, and advisor in the startup, nonprofit, and private-equity sectors.
