Elijah Mayfield

Elijah Mayfield is the AI Advisor for GSV Ventures, a member of the Strategic Advisory Board, and an angel investor in startups like Magic School. Previously, he was an executive at Turnitin, managing machine learning research and product development which reached more than 30 million students globally. He joined Turnitin when they acquired LightSide Labs, which he founded as CEO. He has taught courses on machine learning for social policy at the University of Pennsylvania, and consulted on strategy for AI in education on behalf of the Gates Foundation, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the College Board, and others. He received his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon’s Language Technologies Institute, and has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles on education technology, human-computer interaction, and machine learning.
