Dr. Gordon Amerson is a passionate educational leader, mentor, and advocate with more than two decades of experience serving students, educators, and communities. Now in his 8th year serving communities as a Superintendent of Schools, he has had the privilege, since July 2024, to serve as Superintendent of Schools for the Val Verde Unified School District in Perris, California. Under his leadership, Val Verde continues to advance as an innovative district—embracing artificial intelligence and its benefits for students and educators—while maintaining an unwavering focus on equity, achievement, and opportunity for all learners.

Dr. Amerson is also guiding Val Verde’s strategic planning process, working with staff, students, parents, and community partners to ensure the district continues its mission of creating a positive environment that produces lifelong learners and responsible, contributing citizens in a culturally diverse society.

A proud graduate of California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), Dr. Amerson earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, where his research focused on urban school leadership and closing the achievement gap. His career has taken him from the science classroom to senior leadership roles in San Bernardino City Unified, Capistrano Unified, Duarte Unified, and now Val Verde Unified—each role driven by his commitment to excellence and access for all students.

With a leadership style rooted in collaboration, innovation, and trust, Dr. Amerson is a Gallup Certified Clifton Strengths Coach an education thought leader, and a practitioner committed to building excellent organizations.
