
Dr. Gwanhoo Lee is Professor and Chair of the Department of Information Technology and Analytics in the Kogod School of Business at the American University, Washington, DC. He is also the Director of the Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence. He has served as an advisor to South Korea’s Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and has consulted with Samsung on digital strategy and the World Bank on national digital strategies for developing countries. Dr. Lee has collaborated with senior executives from various organizations, including Cargill, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Deloitte, IBM, LG CNS, LG Electronics, Medtronic, Samsung Electronics, Samsung Economic Research Institute, and the Washington Post. Dr. Lee’s research focuses on AI governance, digital transformation, agile software development, smart government, information privacy, and cybersecurity. His research has been published in many top academic journals. He has also published through the Atlantic Council, IBM Center for the Business of Government, the National Bureau of Asian Research, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has been quoted or featured in U.S. News and World Report, CBS Radio, AFP News, Washington Business Journal, Chosun Daily Newspaper, and SBS TV News. His Open Government Model has been adopted as the framework by government agencies in Austria and Germany. Dr. Lee earned his doctorate in information systems from the University of Minnesota and his B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial engineering from Seoul National University. Dr. Lee has been awarded the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, the UPS Scholarship, IBM research grants, and the Kogod Endowed Fellowship.
