Dr. John Malloy came to San Ramon Valley Unified School District in July 2020 after having served as the Director of Education (Superintendent) at the Toronto District School Board in Toronto. John has an extensive background in education at all levels and is a fierce advocate for an equitable, accessible, quality public education. John has taken his vision for learning and student engagement to new heights in SRVUSD. He led the District to adopt their Strategic Directions, which now guide the definition of student success built upon the existing foundation of academic excellence. He also has launched the Access to Excellence initiative, which is driven by goals to bring the community together through engagement, advocacy and fundraising, ensuring the success of our students now and into the future. John prioritizes student voice, ensuring that students have space to share their stories and insights, and that all of the District’s work is guided by the experience and expertise of students, staff, parents/caregivers and the wider community. Throughout his career, John has served in multiple roles in other Districts, including that of Assistant Deputy Minister of Education/Chief Student Achievement Officer, Director of Education (Superintendent), principal, vice principal, English teacher and guidance counselor. He is the author of an extensive array of education related articles and papers, as well as a frequent presenter at educational conferences and seminars. This has included representing SRVUSD at symposiums on student engagement and deeper learning, and serving as a Superintendent leader guiding student-centered and equity-focused education as a Learning 2025 District.
