Jonathan Levin, a distinguished economist and academic leader, is Stanford University’s thirteenth president. Since becoming president in August 2024, Levin has articulated a vision of excellence, openness, and optimism. He has focused on strengthening Stanford’s culture of inquiry, and advancing its research leadership in the era of data-driven discovery. Levin previously served as the Philip H. Knight Dean of Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and as chair of Stanford’s department of economics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and received the John Bates Clark Medal as the leading American economist under the age of forty.
