The Rithm Project

José Guallpa is a first-generation Latinx student at Brown University studying Computer Science, with academic interests rooted in his lived experiences growing up in Chicago, Illinois. His work sits at the intersection of technology, education, and social impact, with a particular focus on how emerging tools like augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and computer vision can be leveraged to create more equitable and culturally responsive learning environments. José is especially interested in the potential of immersive technologies to reimagine how people interact with digital and physical spaces, both inside and outside of the classroom. Through coursework and independent projects, he has explored AR and mixed-reality applications for education, data visualization, and multilingual learning, centering accessibility and inclusion in his design process. Beyond technical work, José is deeply committed to educational justice and community-centered innovation. He advocates for pedagogical approaches that recognize students’ cultural knowledge, linguistic diversity, and lived experiences as assets rather than obstacles. His broader goal is to contribute to technology development that not only pushes innovation forward but also reflects and serves the diverse communities that shape our world.
