
Dr. Joy Chen is an entrepreneur, investor, senior advisor, and board director, bringing together deep expertise in education, technology, and investment, along with senior leadership experience across the United States, China, and Europe. She currently serves as Senior Advisor to Stanford University and GSV Ventures, and as a Board Director at École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) and the International Team for Implantology (ITI) in Switzerland. In these roles, she advances digital transformation, globalization strategy, and AI-driven innovation. She works across academia, industry, and entrepreneurial ecosystems to build cross-border partnerships and shape the future of learning and professional education. Earlier in her career, Dr. Chen founded First Leap Education, which grew into one of China’s leading language learning brands before being acquired by TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL). Following the acquisition, she served as Chief Investment Officer of TAL U.S., leading international investments, strategic partnerships, and global initiatives. She previously held roles at Verizon, Ernst & Young, and Microsoft, specializing in enterprise systems and large-scale technology integration, building a strong foundation in operational strategy and digital infrastructure. Dr. Chen holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California, an M.S. in Education from Indiana University, and is an alumna of the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
