Karla Cruz Godoy is an educator, activist, and strong advocate of Big Picture Learning’s mission and values. Karla’s love for education originated from her own experience as an alumna of the San Diego Met High School, a Big Picture school. Having experienced a student-driven, interest-based education herself, Karla was inspired to start her career in education in the classroom as a high school ELA teacher in Washington, DC before joining the non-profit world. Currently, Karla serves as the Special Projects Manager at Big Picture Learning, where she provides strategic and programmatic support for a variety of projects including, but not limited to the Deep Learning Equity Fellowship, Ashe Leaders Fellowship program, Leadership Journeys, and BPL's annual international conferences. In addition to her work in education and as a result of following her interests, Karla was a recent contestant on season 43 of the hit show, Survivor, where she used the social skills she mastered in the classroom to help her navigate the game.
