Dr. Katie Brown serves as the Director of Research and Professional Learning for the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector, a nationwide nonprofit serving the over 500 public Montessori schools in the United States. A native of Southern California, Katie earned a PhD in curriculum and instruction with an urban education focus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is an adjunct faculty member at Whitworth University, where she teaches the Montessori Surround arc of graduate-level courses, and an affiliated researcher at the University of Kansas. Her recent research projects have focused on creativity, executive functions, and distance learning in Montessori schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also serves on the Breakthrough Montessori Public Charter School Board of Trustees, the Laura Holland Uzzell Foundation Board of Directors, and the American Montessori Society Research Committee. Her professional experience includes traditional public schools, charter schools, a state education agency, and higher education.
