Earlier in her career, she served as Director of Education and Research in digital media at Sesame Street, where she advanced innovation at one of the world’s most trusted and influential institutions for children. Makeda is also an accomplished producer with credits spanning both film and Broadway. Alongside her husband, bestselling author and CPA Kenny Green, she is part of the Stillwater team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Buena Vista Social Club and a co-producer of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. As a host, Makeda is recognized for her ability to draw out powerful, authentic insights from her guests. She has led compelling conversations with notable figures including Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Paula Abdul, Sunny Hostin, and Deborah Roberts. A sought-after keynote speaker, Makeda has delivered talks at national conferences, spoken internationally, and guest lectured at leading institutions including NYU, Temple University, and Harvard. She is the author of Makeda: Moving Up in Media and serves on the boards of 100 Billion Meals, founded by Tony Robbins, and The Charlie and Tonja Ward Family Foundation. She is also co-chair of LaunchPad, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing underrepresented voices in entertainment and sports. Makeda holds a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
