Michael Wang is a recent graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law. When he was applying for college admissions, he was not fully satisfactory with his results, and wanted to learn how the top institutions utilized race, specifically race for Asian-American applicants. Upon receiving vague and unsatisfactory answers from Yale, Princeton, and Stanford, Michael proceeded to file a complaint against these 3 institutions with the Office of Civil Rights in the Department of Education to receive more answers on how race is utilized and how affirmative action is applied for Asian-American applicants. Michael is one of the few student voices speaking about the issue and his reaction and impact towards what needs to be changed for race-based affirmative action policies.
