Mitzi Peterson joined the Massachusetts Department of Correction Health Services Division in 2012, after providing treatment to the incarcerated population for the various contracted healthcare vendors since 1997. Having served as the Director of Behavioral Health, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services and currently the Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services and Reentry, she oversees the delivery of clinical services and reentry services to incarcerated men and women. During her time at MADOC, she has authored the Do Not Resituate Policy and is the author of the Gender Non-Conforming Policy for the Department. She served as a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, is a certified trainer for the Municipal Police Training Committee in Police Response to persons with mental illness as well as a certified facilitator for Sequential Intercept Mapping.Mitzi earned her Bachelor of Science with Honors in Psychology from William Smith College, and a Master of Social Work from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. In 2017, Mitzi was a recipient of the Manuel Carballo Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service and a Governor’s Citation for Outstanding Performance for her work on the Bridgewater State Hospital Transition Team.
