Dr. Monica Varsanyi is Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Academic Programs at the University of California Office of the President. Dr. Varsanyi works closely with the UC Academic Senate and university leaders to oversee UC faculty initiatives and advance the University’s academic mission.  She oversees a number of high-impact systemwide academic programs including the California Digital Library, UC Press, the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, UC Center Sacramento, and the UC Washington DC Center.  Partnering with the Deputy Provost of Systemwide Academic Personnel, Dr. Varsanyi helps ensure appropriate policies and guidelines are in place across the UC system for UC’s 75,000+ academic appointees. Dr. Varsanyi is also Professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley, and remains appointed to the Doctoral Faculty in Geography/Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Dr. Varsanyi is a scholar of migration, membership, and the state, with a specific focus on unauthorized immigration and immigration federalism in the United States.  Her books include Taking Local Control: Immigration Policy Activism in U.S. Cities and States  and Policing Immigrants: Local Law Enforcement on the Front Lines (with Doris Marie Provine, Scott Decker, and Paul Lewis).   Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
