
Dr. Nathan Evans serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the California State University Office of the Chancellor. His portfolio includes leadership of academic strategy, workforce alignment, artificial intelligence strategy, and intersegmental engagement. Dr. Evans has held leadership positions in the CSU since 2011, previously serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Vice Chancellor, and Director of Enrollment Management. He concurrently served as Acting President of Sonoma State University in 2024. Dr. Evans has held leadership posts across all three segments of California public higher education—at San Diego State University, CSU San Marcos, UC San Diego, and the San Diego Community College District—as well as at Arizona State University. He serves on the faculty in the Educational Leadership program at CSU Fullerton. His work spans academic and student affairs across the postsecondary continuum, from early academic outreach and TRiO to equitable student success to graduate education. He chairs the California College Guidance Initiative Advisory Board and California's Intersegmental Coordinating Council, and serves as an appointed member of the Cradle-to-Career Data System Governing Board. Dr. Evans earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Fresno State, a master's degree in Higher and Adult Education, and a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University.
