Sandra Liu Huang

Sandra Liu Huang is the president of Learning Commons, where she leads a world-class team of engineers, grantmakers, researchers, educators, and developers working to scale proven teaching and learning practices to benefit every learner.

As a philanthropic and technology leader, Sandra has led the development of tools to help teachers unlock the potential of every student and grantmaking to advance research on learning and human development, such as Reach Every Reader and the Advanced Education Research & Development Fund. Altogether, the tools and resources have reached more than 5 million students.

Under Sandra’s leadership, Learning Commons is building on the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s work to advance learning science and translate research into classroom practice. Learning Commons creates public infrastructure for a new generation of AI-enabled education technology tools grounded in pedagogy and research, aligned with skills and academic standards, and designed for the common good. Through flagship tools like Knowledge Graph and Evaluators, Learning Commons is building AI infrastructure that better connects the ways students learn with the tools they learn with.

Previously, Sandra was the head of product at Quora, a platform for gaining and sharing knowledge, where she served as the first product manager and oversaw its growth to 100 million monthly unique users. Sandra also led product development in roles at Google and Facebook, where she managed complex, interdisciplinary teams building tools and products, such as Google AdWords and Google AdSense.

She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford University.
