Sue Lottridge is a Chief Scientist of Natural Language Applications at Cambium Assessment, Inc (CAI) and Managing Director of Psychometrics. She has a Ph.D. in Assessment and Measurement from James Madison University and Masters’ degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In her current role, she leads CAI’s machine learning team on the training, design, deployment and evaluation of CAI’s NLP-based AI software, all of which leverage large language models. Her team manages the automated scoring of speech and text across many states, scoring over 20 million responses in a year. These engines enable CAI clients to report scores to students and teachers quickly and accurately. Her team also manages CAI’s Hotline engine, which flags student responses which indicate the possibility of harm. These engines process over 105 million responses, ensuring that students needing intervention are identified quickly. Her team also manages Write On with Cambi! an essay feedback tool that provide students with writing feedback as they revise and edit their essays. She also contributes to research on innovative uses of AI in item generation and evaluation. Most recently, Sue wrote the chapter on automated scoring of constructed responses for ITC and ATP Guidelines for Technology-Based Assessment. She also served on the National Academy of Sciences Panel for Opportunities for the NAEP in an Age of AI and Pervasive Computation: A Pragmatic Vision.
