When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemon Pound Cake...Afroman

Afroman (Grammy-nominated Artist) joins Michael Cohn (Partner, GSV Ventures) and Arun Saigal (CEO & Co-founder, Thunkable) at the ASU+GSV Summit 2026 to share his journey blending music, satire, and First Amendment advocacy.

An unforgettable afternoon with the one and only Afroman, including a live performance and interactive discussion (and maybe even some pound cake), at the 2026 ASU+GSV Summit!

If there’s anyone turning “bad times into good times,” it’s Afroman. After his home was brutishly and unjustly raided by armed police, the Grammy-nominated rapper released his viral Lemon Pound Cake album roasting the incident—with tracks like "Why You Disconnecting My Video Camera" and "Will You Help Me Repair My Door"—even using his security camera footage in music videos, memes, and merch.

Afroman went from a first-rate lampooner to a First Amendment hero when a recent jury ruled in his favor in the officers’ retaliatory defamation trial. He emerged victorious in head-to-toe stars-and-stripes, describing his flag-inspired suit as “a symbol of hope.”

As fellow 2026 keynoter Greg Lukianoff wrote, “A country cannot use the force of the state to silence you after it has attempted to humiliate you and damaged your property.”

Afroman has long carved out a unique space in hip hop by blending his music with comedy, storytelling, and an unapologetic but laid-back attitude. With multiple studio albums and chart-topping tracks, his blend of humor and raw, real-life commentary has made him a cultural icon worldwide.
